Recent policy paper has some believing Barrie closer to getting a new university campus

BARRIE - A recent policy paper from the provincial government has some believing a new university campus for Barrie might be one step closer to reality.

Laurentian University (Barrie campus) associate vice-president Craig Fowler said the Ministry of Training, colleges and Universities document released in December is a step in the right direction.

"We're pleased and excited to see the ministry's Major Capacity Expansion Policy Framework as it provides further guidance on the government's goals and aspirations for post secondary education in critically under-served regions of the province," he said Sunday. "This is the first solid document to come out with how they're going to deal with expansion.

"We have been anticipating this announcement and have been working diligently over the past few years to refine and enhance our already strong satellite campus plans for Barrie."
