BARRIE - The push in Barrie continues for the provincial, post-secondary pot of gold.
Laurentian University upped the ante Monday, adding $11 million to its previous $14-million commitment to a new campus in the city, which has already promised $14 million over 10 years.
Last week, Lakehead University and Georgian College announced plans to offer more undergraduate degrees, and are submitting a proposal to the province's major capacity expansion fund.
Ontario's Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities is expected to make decisions about new university campuses and increasing degree capacity, along with funding, in 2015.
"We're competing with other universities in the province that want to expand their main campuses, but this process is no longer about just satellite campuses. It's about any major capacity expansion," said Laurentian president Dominic Giroux.
