BARRIE - Avery Konda might soon need a bigger frame for his college diploma.
As a third-year student in Georgian College's Environmental Technology program, Konda will soon be able to garner an integrated university degree through a new Lakehead University and Georgian College partnership degree development program.
"This gives me a pathway to university. I'll get my diploma, but now I could go to Lakehead and get a degree," Konda said at Friday's announcement of the collaboration.
Together, Georgian College and Lakehead University expect to roll out more than 20 new degree programs offering students both a university degree and college diploma in four years.
"The degrees we're announcing today include high-demand fields (such as) business administration, science, environmental studies and more," said Georgian College president and CEO MaryLynn West-Moynes, "Some degrees will be Georgian degrees. Some will be Lakehead degrees and some will be innovative integrated degrees: a new type of degree that responds to the needs of employers in the 21st century.
