BARRIE - Much like bears circling the honey pot, politicians and school officials are greeting the provincial government's announcement of university funding as a bona fide bonanza.

The Ontario government has called for letters of intent to build a university be received by June 27. All subsequent request for proposals (RFPs) must be received by Sept. 26.
Laurentian University's Craig Fowler said the school has already submitted its letter of intent to put the $14 million they've promised into the same envelope as the city's $14 million – either in land, money or assets.
Laurentian officials are now waiting for the province to cough up their share so they can open in September 2020.
